Too often, our built environment is in the way of our natural way of living. I design and build projects that integrate these two worlds in a functional, appealing manner — reminding us of our interdependence with the living environment.

Function + beauty
Form + function

I grew up on a farm in Pennsylvania where making things work with what you had was the norm. After high school, I joined the Marine Corps. Since then I’ve worked in various endeavors from building bamboo bikes, real estate, solar energy, and finally woodworking and renovation. I got into renovating because I love taking the time to understand people’s needs.

Through our shop in Milwaukee and the work we do regionally, With the Trees Design offers interior renovation, custom furniture, and architectural work. Let’s connect about how we can help you create your perfect match of form and function in your next project.

What People Are Saying

We have worked with Philip on several projects from master bedroom and bath remodel to custom furniture design and fabrication.

Philip has a flare for melding functionality with aesthetics and handles every step of the project himself from design and construction to hand picking each exquisite piece of wood in its purest, natural form. The craftsmanship is unmatched and the results are truly a work of art.

Philip has done a handful of projects at my house. All of them have been done with skill, professionalism and an eye for both beautiful design and practical considerations.

Most notably he made a custom, built-in desk for my office that I absolutely love.

I definitely recommend working with him for projects small or big!

We added a front porch to our home with a custom porch swing made by Philip. The swing is sturdy, big enough for two to lounge or for one to nap and daydream. We absolutely love it!

We asked Philip to come back to liven up our dining room. He applied a lime wash which brightened up the room and added subtle texture, and constructed a plate rail around the room which displays our art and collectibles. The room is transformed!
